ECR 2022 in Vienna - We were at ECR 2022 🎉! Here is a summary: Kevin presented his results on an accurate AI model for the follow-up on mesothelioma, as well as a second AI model for the legal diagnosis of asbestosis absestosis (1,2). Teresa presented her results on RECIST variability in estimating total tumor burden using computer simulations (unfortunately no link). Zuhir presented his imaging findings on CUP tumors and the potential application of AI (3). Eduardo presented his AI models for the quantification and staging of prostate cancer (4). Stefano held two lectures on novel avenues of research in AI and immunotherapy, and on the role of self-supervised learning to increase trust in deep learning models (5,6). Our team was also involved in two panel discussions: one with Sean on the integration of AI in the workflow (7), and one with Zuhir and Stefano on the management of multidisciplinary research teams (8).

April 2022 - Teresa published online her preliminary work on RECIST uncertainty, where she set up a controlled experiment using a computer model to explore the effects and behavior of RECIST for the most prominent limitation: target lesions selection. Igmar defended his MSc thesis, which used deep learning to investigate the prognostic role of whole-body anatomical changes during cancer treatment, extending previous pilots, but with better models, and with a larger cohort of 1000+ patients tweet, thesis. Sajjad Rostami started working in our lab, in the research line of radiogenomics. Welcome Sajjad!
